FAQs

  • How long have you been a DJ?
Started as a club DJ back in the 80’s and have loved seeing people dance to my music ever since.
  • What genres of music are you most experienced with?
As an open format DJ, I am passionate about all dance beats that flow through you and make you move. That includes 60s, Pop, R&B, Dance Rock, House, Hip Hop, Soul/Funk and much more
  • How do you stay current with music trends?
I watch the charts posted on the various DJ music pools I belong to and what’s popular on various Spotify playlists.
  • How do you customize your approach for different events?
I make it a point to ask customers very specific questions about their music choice. I especially like to know the theme of the event. It doesn’t matter if it’s for a small wedding or any celebration. There is no such thing as one-size-fits-all; I have a good grasp on how to blend the right tracks smoothly to keep the energy flowing.
  • What makes you passionate about being a DJ?
I like being able to recreate memories through music. Everybody remembers a special time in their life when a song made such a big impression, and then have that memory come back.
  • Do you have a specialty or unique skill as a DJ?
📍I like adding a new beat and more life to an older track a customer is requesting by creating a remix of that track, prior to event night. 📍The trend right now is for more “quick mixing” at events to allow for more tracks and requests to be played, while keeping the beat flowing smoothly.
  • How do you ensure a seamless flow of music throughout an event?
📍I pay close attention to how guests are reacting to the current vibe on the floor, so reading the room is a very key skill DJs need to master. 📍My experience as a DJ allows me to know how to keep the momentum going for a good time.
  • Do you also emcee and make announcements?
Being an emcee and making announcements are key aspects of a DJs skill set; so, the answer is yes. However, I am not a radio DJ, so the announcements will be tailored to the customers wishes.
  • How do you handle song requests?
I have a vast music library ranging from popular 60s-70s oldies, 80s-90s, Current Rock, House, Funk/Soul, HipHop, Disco and much more. I do take requests and will do my best to play all requests. In our consult session(s), I do rely heavily on the playlist submitted by the customer and what they think their friends and family may want to dance to. The same holds true for non-dance events.
  • How would you describe your style as a DJ?
I obviously enjoy keeping guests moving on the floor. Most notably, I am very personable and easily approachable. I’m a true people person.
  • Can I provide a “DO NOT PLAY” list?
I always ask for a DO NOT PLAY list from my customers. Also, I do not play EXPLICIT language tracks, unless it’s a very adult event and the customer advises it’s OK to play.
  • Do you assist in the creation of a playlist?
I will review the playlist provided and possibly make recommendations of other tracks that have worked well together in the past. I like keeping an open line of communication with customers to get it just right. I request feedback from customers on tracks I think that could work well in accordance with the event theme.
  • Are you able to source specific versions of songs?
I do have some great resources for obtaining versions of songs customer are requesting, no problem.
  • How interactive are you in engaging with the audience?
I can be as interactive as the customer wants me to be on the mic but not away from the DJ booth.
  • What’s your approach to playing a diverse range of music genres?
Transitioning from one genre to another keeps the vibe alive and fresh which I am experienced with. Having been a club DJ for some years plus current mobile DJ work, it’s a nice way of just switching it up.
  • Can you provide music for cocktail hour and dinners?
Certainly! That is all part of the whole evening (or daytime) event. Requests for specific songs for cocktail and dinner hour are welcomed.
  • How much time do you need for setup and soundcheck?
I like to arrive and be setup within 1 to 2 hours before the event is set to start, that usually gives me enough time to go live.
  • How do you handle transitions between different parts of the event?
I like to have a copy of the planned schedule of events showing proposed times and who is doing what.
  • Do you have any coordination tips for a successful event?
Sometimes just a queue from the venue staff as to when lights will be dimmed and when music can start for dancing. Names of key guests to direct important announcements to.
  • Do you provide any additional services, such as lighting and photo? booth and etc?
📍I can provide up lighting if requested. 📍I can make suggestions for photo booth vendors. 📍Wireless mics are provided.
  • Do you have backup equipment?
I do have a backup laptop that contains the same music library as my primary computer.

  • Do you have a dress code for events?
Always professional and what the event commands.
  • Do you interact with guests off the dance floor?
If time allows, before the event starts and guests are flowing in, I like to go around and introduce myself to guests.
  • How do you deal with song requests that don’t fit the event’s theme?
